I'll probably still love you when you get back. Especially if you bring milk bones.

We put our dog in a kennel each morning when we leave, because she is not to be trusted alone. But it still breaks my heart when she looks up at me as I close the gate. Damn dogs.

I am emotionally incapable of caging my dog. I just cannot do it. Cy loves the laundry room, it's like his cozy spot, so I iust put a little bed in there and leave him in there while I'm gone.

Our dog flips the fuck out when she is home alone and left to roam around. She has "eaten" a remote control, a pair of headphones, shoes, tore down coats and a coat hanger thing off the wall, pulled couch cushions off the couch...and the list goes on.
She is still fairly young though. She will only be 3 this September.

Edit: Oh, and that is pretty much the ONLY time she is in her crate. Other than when she is a shit head and digs in the yard. Then I make her sit in there for like 2 minutes, with the door open. But she knows she is in trouble so she just goes in there and sits.

Yeah Cy goes a little nuts too, his guard instinct goes on overload when he's alone in a big house and he flips out over every little noise so I put him in the laundry room with water and snacks and a blanket and toys. He likes it, keeps him calm and he still has roo to move around a bit.

I hate that look. I always feel bad.

It is totally offset when you get home and they are the happiest ever, though!

Just a tip: not good to use the crate/kennel as a punishment area.

I used to feel this way. Lived somewhere for a bit where I had to crate them when I was gone as a roommate requirement. Found out mine love crates.

My two are passed the go insane when alone stage. They still get a bit rowdy sometimes and it has its consequences. The slightly older of the two, who's my baby, was so confused when I got my new car. She stood in the window watching my old car, that my sister now has, until I came home in the new one.

My dog eats the walls if we don't crate her. She's epileptic :(

Honestly, if you're careful about how you do crate training and start young your dog might actually like it. Most people make the mistake of sending their dog to their kennel as a punishment, this created a negative association to the kennel. We started by only feeding our dogs when they were sitting in their kennels since to a dog, food=happiness. This coupled with NEVER scolding the dogs when they were in their kennels (to the point that if they actually did something wrong and got to the kennel before they were scolded, they were safe; they knew they did bad and see the kennel as a comfort spot... Any further action in this case is to make you feel better). This led to our dogs still freely using their kennels as beds even though the doors might as well be non-existent since they are never actually closed anymore.

It sounds like your dog has already identified a comfort spot which is essentially the same thing. This was just general advice I've found to work well if kennel training is in the cards

Oh man, I hate that sad look from the Doge when we leave in the morning.

Makes me wish there was some way I could explain "I'll be back in ten hours and we'll go for a walk" to him.

You got lucky

My doge ate the couch and the wood blinds when he was a puppy

Well he didn't actually eat it all. But he chewed the crap out of everything and caused thousands of dollars of damage.
